"Expertise, Experience, and Effectiveness."

Sacramento attorney Mark S. Mayfield has been representing juveniles in Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Amador, San Joaquin, and Alameda counties since 1994. His practice is Juvenile law related, be it Delinquency Court, Dependency Court or Probate Guardianship Court. Never a prosecutor, he is focused on assisting clients and nothing else. He has been doing so for nearly twenty years. Mr. Mayfield has been recognized and asked to appear at yearly conferences such as "Trading Secrets: An Insiders Perspective of How Sacramento Juvenile Justice Agencies Work" in Sacramento County. He served as a panel member in the 2007 "Developing Effective Practices in Juvenile Delinquency Caseflow Management." This seminar was attended by juvenile court judges and attorneys from across California, and was hosted by the Administrative Office of the Courts. And to keep up with changes in the law, Mark attends specialized juvenile law and guardianship seminars each year. This expertise is also recognized by the Superior Court in Sacramento, which appoints Mr. Mayfield to act as Guardian ad Litem in Juvenile Dependency cases where a family member is not available. We are also regularly apppointed by the Family Court to represent children who are involved in contested Guardianship cases, due to our experience in representing juveniles.

While in law school Mr. Mayfield was employed by the Sacramento County Public Defender, Juvenile Division. Shortly after graduating from McGeorge School of Law and passing the bar exam in 1996, Mark launched this private practice. Since then, he has represented hundreds of clients, ranging from relatively minor misdemeanor charges to serious felony allegations. Mr. Mayfield is a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association, the California State Bar, the Sacramento County Indigent Defense Juvenile Panel, and the Sacramento Superior Court Probate Guardianship panel.

Both before and during his legal career, Mark taught at elementary, middle school, high school and college levels, utilyzing both his Master's Degree in United States History from California State University Long Beach and his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of the Pacific. This teaching background also helps him to connect with young people better than lawyers who can only speak "legalese." Children's eyes glaze over when they hear words like "arraignment" and "competency." And, having raised children himself (including children with ADD, ADHD & Aspergers) Mark has first-hand experience with how difficult it can be to assist children with "issues." In fact, whatever your child's "issue" is, chances are Mr. Mayfield has extensive experience understanding and working with it.

Our office can advise you on all aspects of your child's legal matter. Whatever crime your child is charged with we will insist that he or she is treated fairly. If the case is not immediately dismissed, we will pursue every opportunity to remove any blemishes from their record through record seals, charge reductions, and early termination of probation. The State Bar of California discourages attorneys from listing individual case results, but for nearly 20 years Mark has obtained excellent resolutions in a wide variety of cases, including juvenile crimes, adoptions, guardianships, conservatorships, probate and living trusts. Our main office is conveniently located near Highway 50 in Sacramento and we can meet clients in El Dorado Hills as well. Please do not hesitate to call (916) 932-8531 for a free consultation.
